REALLY?!: Aaliyah Movie

We already know that there’s going to be a posthumous alubm for Aaliyah. The first since her tragic death back in 2001.

We now hear that people are looking at doing a movie.

Drake’s ex girlfriend, singer Keisha Chante was asked to do a photoshoot to remember the singer by. We must say she resembles Aaliyah very much so.

Keisha was due to play Aaliyah in the rumoured biopic, and Keisha recently explained what’s happening with the movie’s progress, in an interview with CYInterview

“from my understanding, there are people trying to create a movie and Aaliyah’s family are still mourning her loss and aren’t ready to share her story and create a film. So there’s a bit of back and forth thing with her family and with creative people. And I know that they would bless a movie being created, they’re just not 100 percent comfortable and unfortunately from my understanding they don’t have complete control of her estate. So a movie could technically be made without them green lighting it and I kind of think that’s unfortunate. So I want her family to be on board and to be happy with it. It’s still kind of lingering in the air. I don’t want to disrespect her family. I know that they’re, they don’t like it. They don’t like when they get calls from people, like, ‘Oh, I heard this about your daughter. I heard this.’ Because it’s painful for them. So I know that the lawyer and even them and even my team who have kind of like you know, it’s happy, it’s better for everyone to not really speak on it and I’m just feel like you know, I’m not supposed to speak on it, but I know in this situation, yeah, it’ kind of, it’s a long time coming and I know people really want to know what’s going on. So yeah, I definitely think this was the perfect time to tell you.”

We’re keeping our eye on this one, but it again seems like another uproar for the Haughton family who just seem to want to grieve the loss of someone special.

We do feel sorry for Keisha as people have been ridiculing and insulting her for trying to resemble Aaliyah. We need to remember that this photoshoot was intended as an Aaliyah “inspired” shoot and not as a replacement as no one can ever replace Aaliyah.

We can see certain similarities between Keisha and Aaliyah. Keisha is beautiful in her own right, however she has a visible maturity in her face that Aaliyah didn’t get the chance to have. This is why Aaliyah was called “baby girl”. A grown woman in her own right, but just starting to be one when her life was cut short.

Maybe a younger woman could have pulled off a better look? Who knows. It’s a great picture all the same.

On a sidenote, it gives us slight headache when we see that Keisha is Drake’s ex girlfriend. The same Drake who caused uproar when the single “Enough Said” was released. The same Drake who is a HUGE HUGE fan of Aaliyah. Strange, true and rather confusing!!

UPDATE!: New Aaliyah Album

So we have spoken a lot about the new Aaliyah album that Drake is working on. There was speculation as to whether it was true or not that this was happening, then speculation about whether Timbaland and Missy Elliot would work on the album also caused a stir.

THEN….The label that Aaliyah worked with, “Blackgroud Records” (owned by her uncle Barry Hankerson) claimed that Drake would not produce Aaliyah’s fist posthumous album, but they will instead.

It has now been confirmed that Aaliyah’s close friends and co-workers Missy and Timbaland will NOT be working on the posthumous album.

Missy’s manager Mona Scott Young wrote the following:

“Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate. We’ve seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated.”

Missy herself then added:

“Tim and I carry Aaliyah with us everyday, like so many of the people who love her. She will always live in our hearts. We have nothing but love and respect for her memory and for her loved ones left behind still grieving her loss. They are always in our prayers.”

So there you have it.no involvement from Aaliyah’s two closest friends. As we said before, it’s bad enough that the Haughton family are not supporting the release of a new album. And now for Missy and Timbaland not being involved at all in the album is frankly a double bubble for us. There’s a reason why her work has not been released since her death. It’s hard to see where the respect is for her work.

We’re not really fans of reviving the lyrics of those that have passed, but Aaliyah is something special and we have to say, this track has us gassed right now!

BREAKING NEWS!!: No Aaliyah Album Supported By Her Family…But Will There Be An Album?!

So we’ve heard the AMAZING new track ‘Enough Said’ with Drake finally being able to do a “collaboration” with his idol Aaliyah.

When the track was released, fans were confused and excited. Did this mean a new album? Who released this single? Is this a catalogue of her old work? What is going on?

We then heard news that there would be a new Aaliyah album released by her label Blackground Records (run by her Uncle Barry Hankerson). So what was going on?!

Well we finally heard from the late singer’s brother Rashad Haughton and he has posted on Aaliyah’s Facebook page the following:

‘There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton familt’ – Rashad Haughton (regarding upcoming alum release rumours)’

Its a sad situation for die hard Aaliyah fans who maybe would like to hear something new from the late R&B singer. However posthumous albums always tend to bring up family issues and we think its best left alone.

We then noted that the above quote was virtually exactly the same as a Tweet that her brother put out in March of this year. So was it really him saying this? Is it really true that no album will be supported by the family?

Even if what we have seen is true, the fact that it isn’t supported by the family doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to happen. The only thing we worry about is the fact if Drake ends up being an executive producer on this album, he’s risking getting himself into some problems. Its things like that can give you a bad name. Could you imagine someone releasing a 2Pac or B.I.G album without consulting the family first?? Would be pretty harsh.

The only way we could see it sliding is if Aaliyah’s closest friends Timbaland and Missy are involved, or not involved but he got the family’s permission. This could seriously back fire on him!

NEW MUSIC!!: Aaliyah ft. Drake – Enough Said

We LOVE Drake..and we LOVE Aaliyah even more! Since her tragic death on August 25th 2001, we’ve missed new music from her and just seeing her on our screen.

She made some AMAZING songs including the likes of “More Than A Woman”, “Are You That Somebody” and “I Care 4 U”.

We’ve been lucky enough to hear this amazing track from some of her previous work, with Drake collaborating with her. This is something that most definitely brings her back into our minds.

Drake does the track justice with some amazing work as always and manages to keep her amazing work continue.

We miss her dearly. She may not be here in person but always here in spirit. RIP Aaliyah Houghton.
